Neighborhood Board of Directors

Our neighborhood has a 15-member Board.  Five Board members rotate off each year and 5 new Board members rotate on.  The Board is never static.  We attempt to have a relatively equal number of Board members from the four quadrants of our neighborhood, with Elm Street and the Park itself delineating the four quadrants.    To nominate yourself or a neighbor to the neighborhood Board, please contact President John McLendon. The Board meets monthly at the date/time/location noted below.  For specific dates, click the News tab.  Click here to learn of neighborhood volunteer opportunities and responsibilities.

Our neighborhood Articles of Incorporation were created in September 1978 and our neighborhood  Bylaws were amended in 2007.  Minutes of monthly Board of Directors meetings are usually available within a month after a Board meeting.  They must be typed by our Secretary, a Board volunteer, and approved at the following meeting, then can be posted, so we appreciate your patience.  Our neighborhood's Park Committee minutes are available irregularly.  The Park Committee meets irregularly.  Contact Sally Atwood for Park Committee meeting times/dates/details.
Other Neighborhood Maps

Our neighborhood is approximately  7 x 7 city blocks in size.  View a map of our Fisher Park neighborhood.  Our neighborhood Association represents the entire neighborhood, not just the smaller Historic District within the neighborhood.

Park Master Plan

We even have a Master Plan for the park plantings!  See one plan for East Fisher Park and one plan for West Fisher Park plantings.  Also see the Fisher Park Landscape Managment Policy & Procedures approved in 2009.  Contact the Park Committee for details.

Want to use the City park for a special event?  Need to know City park rules and regs? You may need to complete a City of Greensboro Park Request Form.  Of course, small informal events don't require any form.  Just get out there and enjoy our delightful Fisher Park!

Neighborhood Survey Results

In 2003, neighborhood volunteers mailed a survey, gathered results, and held two public meetings to document concerns and desires of our neighborhood residents and property owners. There is much raw data you are welcome to see, but here is an overview of the Fisher Park Next Generation Committee's findings.  Only you can help bring these goals to fruition.  Find a goal you'd like to participate in, then contact any Board member to volunteer your time for any project.  Thank you!

Neighborhood Newsletter

Four or more times each year, volunteers generate Fisher Parker newsletters.  Our 25-30 neighborhood volunteer Block Captains deliver newsletters to our over 800 homes, apartments, and businesses.  We always encourage additional volunteers to help deliver to blocks without Block Captains, to write articles, to manage advertisements, or to assume the editorship for Fisher Parker newsletters.  Click HERE to read newsletter issues.  Contact Ann Stringfield to volunteer your interest and talents in Fisher Parker newsletter production!
Neighborhood House & Garden Tours

Every 4-5 years, neighborhood volunteers coordinate a home and garden tour as a fundraiser for our neighborhood.  Our successful 2002 tour celebrated our neighborhood's centennial.  To volunteer to help organize another tour, e-mail Todd McCain.

You'll also enjoy a 1990 booklet "Guide to the Restoration of Fisher Park Grounds and Gardens for the Fisher Park Historic District: a Study of Landscape Architecture and Gardening Styles for an Early 20th Century Neighborhood in Greensboro, NC".  This 25-page booklet was authored by Chip Callaway, neighborhood resident and nationally respected Landscape Architect.
Neighborhood Watch

Police consistently advise us not to give money or work to people who wander through neighborhoods, because it only enables behaviors better helped in other ways.  A source of significant local community health and human services is available 24/7/365 by dialing 2-1-1
or visiting  http://partnersforhomeless.org/community.html.  In an emergency, dial the Greensboro Police at 911 or otherwise use their non-emergency number 336-373-2222.

Our Neighborhood/Community Watch volunteer is Sonya Lowe at 336-209-5525or  lowesonya@gmail.com.  Also, please post your neighborhood watch concerns to our e-mail list and contact Sonya Lowe ito organize a neighborhood-wide Community Watch meeting.
Neighborhood Greeters

We are fortunate to have up to four neighbors, one in each quadrant, who volunteer to greet new neighbors and deliver a copy of recent newsletters, a map of the neighborhood and Historic District, Historic District Guidelines, and other valuable information.  If YOU are new in the neighborhood, please contact a neighborhood Greeter to arrange a brief visit.  Understand that neighborhood Greeters do not patrol to see who has moved in, so it's up to you to contact our volunteer Greeters.  Click here to see our 4 Greeter's contact information.
Fisher Park Playgroup a.k.a. Young Fisher Parkers!

As our neighborhood grows increasingly younger with new generations of children on every block, we encourage neighborhood children to develop neighborhood friendships.  Rebecca Woell coordinates a Fisher Park Playgroup.  Our neighborhood's playgroup is laid back, inviting, and a great opportunity for parents and children to meet.  Call Rebecca Woell at 404-0898 or woelljr@earthlink.net.
